Innovative and intuitive, the Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit System simplifies boating at the helm. A partnership with Garmin means the all-in-one system combines engine control and diagnostics with every aspect of navigation for a unified and user-friendly interface. Favourites such as Garmin’s Auto Guidance, Dynamic Positioning System and Joystick Docking are all integrated.
The Glass Cockpit display offers fully customised layouts and views with a multiple split-screen capability to monitor active functions at a glance.
Pre-programmed settings, customised controls
A highlight of the Glass Cockpit System is the pre-programmed ‘Smart Modes’ that can be set up to display preferred screen layouts for specific boating scenarios, all personalised to an owner’s requirements. A pre-set control for ‘cruising’, for example, might have all Garmin applications, including radar, sonar, chart-plotter and engine telemetry, displayed in a pre-determined way across the different screens.
The displays also offer split-screen information for even more options on the one overview. When fishing, for example, three different types of sonars – traditional, side scan and forward-looking – might all be presented on the one display, leaving a second display for navigation systems and a third screen for engine diagnostics.
Smart Mode layouts can also be linked to specific buttons on the IPS joystick or throttle. This helps to shorten the series of commands required to prepare a motor yacht for certain manoeuvres. For example, when berthing or docking, simply press the docking button on the joystick station to activate the joystick, and the system can be set to bring up a full-screen view of all the docking cameras to assist with situational awareness in close-quarter manoeuvres. Other less relevant navigation instruments, such as charts and radars, are deactivated.
Fully integrated with the joystick and throttle controls, the Glass Cockpit can be programmed to display essential information for the skipper on screen when needed.

Easy on the eye
The Glass Cockpit’s advanced technology is paired with an intuitive design. The fully integrated system presents multiple displays at the helm, eliminating unnecessary buttons, instruments and dials. It’s an elegant solution and superior to a series of disjointed units and screens made by different vendors. It’s also fast and easy to operate.
With displays ranging between 7 and 24 inches, the Glass Cockpit System is ideal for any sized Riviera motor yacht. Most owners opt for two or three large screens in easy view behind the wheel, and a smaller screen lower on the dashboard for constant monitoring of engine telemetry. Keen anglers might also be interested in a separate screen situated in the cockpit, bringing depth-sounder information right to the point of action.
Anti-glare screens and LED backlighting makes the Glass Cockpit easy to view in varying conditions, while auto-dimming enhances visibility at night.
The Glass Cockpit is standard in all current Riviera and Belize motor yachts with Volvo Penta Inboard Performance Systems (IPS).
