The steep hills surrounding the picturesque inlet of Refuge Bay in Sydney’s Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park made the perfect backdrop for an exciting and fun weekend with a serious cause for a group of Riviera owners.
“It is a magical place with a waterfall at the back of the bay,” Nathan Kenny said.
Nathan and Kim cruised their Riviera from Shellharbour on the southern New South Wales coast to join 45 Riviera owners at the Southern Hemisphere’s largest floating music festival, a one-of-a-kind on-water event that raised $135,244 for mental fitness programs operated by the Gotcha4Life foundation.

Gotcha4Life is a not-for-profit foundation that delivers preventative mental fitness campaigns, workshops, programs and resources in schools, sports clubs, workplaces and communities Australia-wide.
The Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay annual Raft Up 4 Life festival attracted 120 boats.
Riviera is a founding supporter of the event.
As the Riviera yachts cruised into the bay, they were welcomed by the team from R Marine Sydney and assisted to tie up together in the giant circular raft-up.
To help get the party started, the R Marine Sydney team hosted cocktails on Friday afternoon. Provided by Red Mill Rum, the options included Riviera Colada, Fly Bridge Smash, America’s Bay Spritz or Sports 1933, a classic rum honouring the foundation of the business. A musician moved from boat to boat as the cocktails were delivered to help set the atmosphere and bring everyone together ahead of the main festivities.

“It was hard to believe how well the Riviera team looked after all of us throughout the weekend,” Nathan Kenny said. “Talking with people on board Rivieras tied up on either side of us, we all had a great time. It may be a long voyage from our home port, but we will be here again next year.”
Grahame and Cheryl Kelly began the weekend with a cocktail on Friday afternoon and were surprised and delighted when fresh croissants were delivered directly to their Riviera 6000 Sport Yacht for Saturday breakfast. “It was wonderful being here, to meet a lot of people. It was so special to simply sit in a beautiful area like this and to top it all off was all the wonderful entertainment.
“Friday night was particularly beautiful with all the boats lit up.
“Then we were greeted with fresh coffee when we went across the Bay to sign-in for the event on Saturday morning.
“We were also given some great gifts including hats and coffee cups. We felt very spoiled,” Cheryl Kelly said.
The best way to enjoy the beauty of Refuge Bay, the friendship of fellow Riviera owners and some fabulous live entertainment is from the cockpit or aft deck of your yacht.
The raft-up mosh pit with tenders, paddleboards and almost anything that floated, gathered in front of the floating stage for the fund-raising auction and main concert performances.
The music festival on Saturday brought everyone to their feet as bands played on a pontoon in the middle of the circular raft-up.
Dealer Principal at R Marine Sydney, Michael Joyce, said many Riviera families joined an informal mosh-pit aboard tenders and paddle-boards in front of the stage.
The concert included Sirens of Sound with their high-energy celebration of the powerhouse women of rock and soul, with songs by Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner, Blondie, Joan Jett and more.
Michael and Melinda Moraza were also impressed by the magical setting of Refuge Bay combined with the high-energy entertainment.
“We thoroughly enjoyed the spirit of sharing the weekend with other Riviera owners. A number of friends dropped in to join us during the day. A highlight for us was the music by Friday On My Mind,” Michael said. “We also appreciated the effort by Michael Joyce and his team at R Marine Sydney to make us feel so welcome.”
A roving musician provided by R Marine Sydney accompanied the cocktail delivery to Riviera yachts on the Friday afternoon, setting the musical tone for the weekend ahead.
Ian and Marcelle Carr arrived at Refuge Bay aboard their new Riviera Sport Yacht.
“On Friday night we hosted probably 30 or 40 Riviera people on board. We had a great time. I rather enjoyed one or two of the Riviera cocktails!” Ian said.
Miles and Cathy Fink cruised from the central coast to Refuge Bay aboard their Sports Motor Yacht and they especially enjoy the camaraderie of events such as the raft-up.
“You meet so many people, and you enjoy everybody’s company as we did last night,” he said. “Over the past 30-odd years of boating we have really enjoyed being able to join the Riviera events. We’ve got so many friends out here now on the water.”
Michael Joyce praised the Royal Motor Yacht Club team for their organisation and said he was proud that so many Riviera owners chose to support the Gotcha4Life cause by joining the raft-up.
“The logistics and planning for an event of this scale are significant, and I congratulate the whole team at RMYC Broken Bay on their efforts.
“It was fantastic to see our yacht owners involved in the auction during the event, and some even donated prizes to help raise additional funds,” he said.
“Not even the rain could stop the fun. It held off until the evening, just as the last set finished.”
