The three-hour lunch started with a refreshing Aperol Spritz and canapes served al fresco to take advantage of the gorgeous autumn weather on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
When the ladies moved inside, they were treated to a choice of fine Italian wines paired with platters of wild-caught barramundi, Rigatoni alla Carbonara and eight-hour slow cooked lamb shoulder served with crispy leaf salad and garlic and rosemary potatoes. For dessert, the lucky ladies indulged in fresh vanilla cannoli served with a drizzle of honey and pistachios.

“Everyone at the lunch had one thing in common,’’ Nicole Box said. “We all started with a love of boating and from there, everything just grew. We had lots of laughs and giggles. It was my first Riviera Ladies’ Lunch and I felt very welcomed from the moment I walked into the restaurant.
“It was an eclectic crowd, from all walks of life, but no-one felt out of place. I think I formed some lovely new friendships, and I will be back next year.
“The service was good throughout the lunch. My wine glass was constantly being filled. Nothing was a problem for the restaurant staff.’’
The mother-of-two, from Roma in Western Queensland, said her family stayed on their Riviera 53 Enclosed Flybridge at Southport over the course of the Boat Show.
“It was a great opportunity to network with like-minded people,’’ Denyse Coughlin, from Sydney, said. “It was a beautiful setting; the food was excellent, and the service could not have been better.’’
Denyse said there was a sense of fun among the women, who agreed that they were better at driving their Riviera motor yachts than their partners were.
“Most of the women come from business backgrounds,” she said. “We gravitate towards interesting conversations and learn from each other’s life stories. This group of women is skilful and knowledgeable about Riviera and appreciate the chance to come together like this.’’
R Marine Sydney marketing manager Mary Tuka said guests were reluctant to leave.
“It was a lively event, filled with lots of laughter,’’ she said. “Everyone put in a real effort to dress up. There were some very glamourous outfits and lots of sophisticated looks. The time went very quickly. That’s always a good sign that people are enjoying themselves. Lots of women exchanged numbers and will be catching up again in the future.’’
