2002 - RIVIERA M290 SPORTS CRUISER

Riviera’s M290 sports cruiser was the smallest of three similar models launched over a year at the beginning of the 21st century.

Officially launched in 2002, the M290 managed to offer most of the amenity of her two larger sisters in a compact package: sleeping accommodation for four adults in two double beds, a bathroom, well-equipped galley and a dinette in the saloon area. The entertainers deck provided a twin seat at the forward helm on the starboard side, a wrap-around lounge immediately behind and a wet bar opposite.

Both the boat-buying public and the media were enthusiastic.

Power Boat magazine wrote: “This is a boat that is ideally suited to Australian waters and our boating lifestyle”.

In New Zealand, Trade-A-Boat reported she offered “apartment-like living” and “a well-proportioned boat that will appeal to everyone from the young at heart to retirees”.

The Australian edition of Trade-A-Boat featured her on a front cover.

Buyers were plenty as the M290 saw sales of 93 boats over five years.

Standard power was provided by twin MerCruiser petrol engines rated to 320 hp each linked to sterndrives.
