2008 - RIVIERA 48 OFFSHORE EXPRESS

When Riviera launched the 48 Offshore Express in 2008, it reintroduced the concept of the helm-deck layout so popular on the 4000 and 3000 Offshore models of the late ’90s.

Layout options were plentiful, with a three-side enclosed, bimini covered or open helm deck and an optional double or pullman-style bunk second cabin below.

The helm deck was raised two steps up from a large cockpit that was perfectly designed for fishing. This raised deck included a rear-facing lounge and a port side L-shaped lounge around a GRP table aft of the helm and companion seats forward. A wet bar and another lounge ran along the starboard side.

Four steps down, the accommodation space included a comprehensive galley on the starboard side with two-burner electric cooktop and drawer fridges, a port-side L-shaped lounge around an adjustable-height timber table and the master stateroom with en-suite bathroom forward.

The second cabin was truly convertible, separated from the lounge area by tri-fold doors. During the day, this cabin could become part of the lounge area if required as the doors folded back, and the bunk beds quickly converted to a lounge extension. The second bathroom was a wet head.

She featured on the front covers of boating magazines in the US and New Zealand and in reviews in the United Arab Emirates, the US, New Zealand and Australia.

Australia’s Blue Water magazine pronounced her as “without any shadow of a doubt, Riviera’s best fishing boat ever!”

Pacific Motor Yacht described the interior as a “purposeful layout that brings together a number of dedicated areas into one flowing space”.

In the US, Soundings stated in its review “this ruggedly engineered boat is a strong contender with a lot to offer”.

Power options were also plentiful, from a standard pair of Cummins turbo diesels rated to 715 hp each through MTU engines rated to 825 hp up to Caterpillar C18s rated to 1,015 hp each.

Riviera produced 22 of these Offshore Express boats over three years in production.
