2008 - RIVIERA 4400 SPORT YACHT

When Riviera launched its innovative 4400 Sport Yacht, the praise was immediate and effusive.

She was the first boat in Australia to be designed specifically for the new Volvo Penta Inboard Propulsion System (IPS). The Riviera engineers introduced the concept of infusion moulding for the hull, saving weight and resin. And Riviera’s designers took full advantage of the engines being moved closer to the aft end of the boat, building a cavernous second cabin that included an athwartships double bed and a single along the starboard side.

She won the Australian Marine Awards Powerboat of the Year in that year.

The boat-buying public agreed, purchasing 30 in that first year and another 31 the following year.

There were two fully enclosed bathrooms, one as the en-suite to the master stateroom forward and the other serving the second cabin as well as operating as a day head.

The saloon was all single level with a twin-seat helm forward on the starboard side and an L-shaped dinette and lounge opposite the aft galley on the starboard side. An electrically operated sunroof flooded the space with additional light and air.

She included the awning window and pillarless glass door between saloon and cockpit that was introduced with the 3600 Sport Yacht. The cockpit flaunted a lounge across the transom facing a large timber dining table that could be adjusted to coffee table height. A deep locker was built into the outer side of the transom, accessed from the hydraulic swim platform.

She featured on the covers of magazines around the world, including France, the US, New Zealand and Australia. And reviews came in from Russia, the US, Sweden, France, Malta, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

Boats magazine said she offered “an inventive solution to indoor/outdoor space”.

Club Marine’s reviewer stated: “It’s a winner by a country smile”.

Malta’s Boats & Yachting said: “Acceleration was staggering for a boat of this size”.

Riviera produced 77 of this innovative model over four years in production.
