1996 - RIVIERA 43 OPEN FLYBRIDGE

Sport fishing or cruising, the Riviera 43 Open Flybridge model was designed and built for strong appeal to both markets.

Launched in 1996, the 43 was the first Riviera model to achieve more than 200 boats built, attaining a total of 206 over eight years in production. In its second year, 27 Riviera 43s were built helping the company to the milestone of more than 1,000 boats built.

Trade-A-Boat magazine’s David Lockwood described the 43 as “pretty as a picture”.

He went on to describe her as “low maintenance meets high-spec engineering in a boat that’s also wonderfully luxurious inside.”

The 43 offered owners two accommodation options: three cabins accommodating six adults with one bathroom or two cabins and a large second bathroom as the owner’s en-suite.

The master was forward with a large island double bed. The second cabin provided twin beds on the starboard side. The three-cabin option added pullman-style bunks in a cabin on the port side immediately aft of the master.

The saloon layout followed the now-standard Riviera design with the U-shape lounge around a timber table. The galley immediately forward of the dinette and a step down was equipped with a two-burner electric cooktop, under-bench microwave oven, a tall fridge and moulded sink with mixer tap and draining board.

The cockpit included engine-room access through a moulded sink unit that swung out to reveal the entry. The flybridge offered twin helm seats. The skipper’s seat in the centre and companion to starboard with guest lounges forward.

Standard engines for the 43 were twin Caterpillar 3116 diesel engines rated to 350 hp with options for higher-spec versions rated to 420 hp or 435 hp.

Riviera built a total of 206 of this model. It was the first to achieve this number.
