2010 - RIVIERA 43 OPEN FLYBRIDGE

When Riviera launched the 43 Open Flybridge in 2010, it was building on the heritage of one of the most popular models ever developed by the company. The original 43, launched in 1996, was produced over eight years with a total of more than 200 boats built.

The new 43 represented an evolution from an age-old tradition of convertible fishing cruisers to lifestyle cruising boats that offered fishing capabilities. The 43 Open remains in production today.

She was the first Riviera flybridge boat that embraced the new Volvo Penta IPS pod drives and the Riviera design team took full advantage of the additional accommodation space that could be created as a result.

Go Boating magazine commented that she “delivered in all aspects of liveability and performance”.

Pacific MotorYacht stated: “everything flowed nicely through from cockpit to saloon to galley to accommodation”.

Trade-A-Boat wrote that the 43 was “a truly revolutionary cruiser configured to carry Riviera’s steady-as-she-goes offshore flybridge range into the future”.

She was reviewed in magazines in the United States, South Africa, Spain, New Zealand and Australia and featured on the front covers of Southern Boating in the US and Trade-A-Boat in Australia.

She was a two-stateroom, two-bathroom model with a luxurious saloon, forward galley just one step down from the main saloon floor, an open cockpit with aft-facing mezzanine seating and an open flybridge with a smartly moulded hardtop.

The cockpit included a barbecue built into the transom and a fridge unit to port, tucked under a flybridge stair-ladder. A sliding glass door and awning window between cockpit and saloon opened the two spaces to provide indoor/outdoor living. The saloon itself provided a new design with a U-shape lounge around a timber extendable dining table to starboard and a lounge and entertainment unit to port. The lounge – in two parts – could easily become twin seats at the dinette. The forward galley was equipped with a convection microwave oven, two burner cooktop, drawer fridge units under the benchtop and an underslung stainless-steel sink. The salon design was further refined in 2012 with an aft galley and forward breakfast bar with twin stools on the port side.

The accommodation deck took much of its inspiration from the first Riviera that was purpose-built for Volvo Penta IPS, the 4400 Sport Yacht. The master stateroom was forward with walk-around queen double bed, hanging locker and enclosed en-suite bathroom with separate shower stall. The second stateroom amidships offered a double bed athwartships on the port side and a single bed along the starboard side. The second bathroom served the guests in this stateroom as well as being available as a day head.

The cockpit was the perfect example of the dual capabilities of the new generation 43. A large teak swim platform was an option. A barbecue unit built into the transom could be replaced by a life bait well and units under deck hatches could serve as fish bins or as additional storage.

The ‘bridge, accessed by a raked teak-step stair-ladder, offered an aft helm and plenty of lounge space around a GRP table forward for guests to relax.

She was powered by the Volvo Penta IPS 600 pod drive package.

Riviera has built 70 new generation 43 Open Flybridge boats.
