1987 - RIVIERA 27 TARGA AND HARDTOP
After the successful launch of the Riviera 27 open flybridge model, the design team revisited this compact model and introduced three variations.
These were an Express Flybridge with the ladder to the bridge immediately behind the helm seat, an express cruiser style Hardtop replacing the flybridge, and a sporty Targa model with an open cockpit, raked wrap-around windscreen and targa over the helm and companion seats.
The interior of the Hardtop and Targa models was redesigned as the saloon was moved to the lower deck and the helm and companion seat were positioned in the bridge deck.
Below a smaller saloon was created and the bathroom moved aft as a wet head. The dinette could convert to a double bed for additional accommodation by lowering the table on the starboard side. The galley was opposite on the port side and offered a two-burner gas cooktop and sink with the option of a fridge. Fixed sleeping accommodation was forward in a V-berth with an infill.
These models were powered by single Volvo petrol or diesel engine attached to a stern drive. Access to the engine-room was via a large hatch in the aft cockpit floor.
Australian Boating magazine featured the Targa on its front cover and the reviewer commenting “The Riv 27 performs like a thoroughbred. It is quick, soft, responsive and easily handled by the not-so-experienced boater”.
