2003 - RIVIERA 58 OPEN FLYBRIDGE

Riviera unveiled its first true flagship model in 2003 with the 58 Enclosed Flybridge.

Her blue-water hull was designed and extensively tank-tested by international superyacht designer and hydrodynamics expert Frank Mulder. This hull also included propeller tunnels that helped reduce shaft angle and improve performance and efficiency.

She offered proud owners four cabins and three bathrooms. The midships master on the port side was large enough to place the queen double bed athwartships while the guest VIP stateroom was forward, also featuring a queen double bed. Both staterooms offered en suite bathrooms. Two additional cabins were on the starboard side, sharing the third bathroom that also operated as a day head.

She was the first Riviera to provide galley, dinette and saloon lounge on one level. The large U-shape galley included luxury items such as a dishwasher and garbage compactor as well as multiple fridges, a stainless steel sink and granicoat benchtops. The large C-shape dinette was opposite the galley while the expansive saloon included a plush L-shape leather lounge on the port side with a polished timber entertainment unit to starboard.

The fully enclosed flybridge offered luxurious leather helm and companion seats forward, facing a station reminiscent of a luxury car rather than a boat, including a leather-bound wheel. Aft was an L-shape lounge that could quickly convert to a double bed. A bridge deck aft provided comprehensive engine controls for docking or manoeuvring while sport fishing.

Inevitably she drew media reviews across the world, from Russia to South Africa, Singapore, America, New Zealand and Australia.
She featured on the front cover of Yachting magazine in the US, Big Boat in Australia and Pacific MotorYacht in New Zealand
In America, Yachting magazine stated: “her blend of modern and traditional forms is unique, well-balanced and seems the natural evolution of her builder’s line”.

Power & Motoryacht described her as “one big and impressive boat”.

In Australia, Modern Boating magazines said that “stepping through the sliding aft saloon door is like walking in to the foyer of a five-star hotel”.

She remained in production for three years, with 32 built, after which she was replaced by the 60 Enclosed Flybridge.

Standard power was provided by a pair of MTU turbo diesel engines rated to 900 hp each while an upgrade to 1,400 hp Caterpillars was available.
